Reishi

Ganoderma lucidum

The reishi mushroom, or lingzhi, is a woody fungus celebrated for over 2,000 years as the mushroom of immortality.

Benefits

Supports stress resilience and rest

traditionally valued to help calm an overactive nervous system and encourage deep, restorative sleep

Supports balanced immune function

acts as an immunomodulator, helping train and stabilize immune surveillance rather than overstimulating it

Supports liver and cellular defense

provides antioxidant triterpenes that help protect cells from daily oxidative stress

Why they work

Triterpenes (ganoderic acids)

bitter compounds that support liver pathways, help balance inflammatory signaling, and promote nervous-system relaxation

Beta-1,3/1,6-glucans

complex structural polysaccharides that bind directly to immune receptors to support white blood cell activity

Traditional calming use

historically classified in herbal medicine as a shen tonic used to nourish vital energy and steady the mind during periods of stress

How to use it for the specific effect

For sleep and evening relaxation

take a hot-water or dual extract powder or capsule 1–2 hours before bedtime

For daily immune and vitality support

take a standardized extract daily with a morning or afternoon warm beverage

Key active compounds

Ganoderic acids

specialized triterpenes responsible for calming properties and bitter taste

Beta-glucans

fungal polysaccharides supporting balanced immune surveillance

Sterols and adenosine

naturally occurring compounds that support healthy microcirculation and relaxation

Caution

Blood-thinning or immune medications

reishi may amplify blood-thinning effects or interact with immunosuppressants; avoid before scheduled surgery.

How we chose it to buy online

We check every product so you don't have to. A reishi only makes our list if:

  • The mushroom itself — the mature cap grown on hardwood, not mycelium started on a block of grain
  • Dual extracted — hot water and alcohol, because part of reishi's chemistry only comes out in one and part only in the other
  • Lab results you can see — the brand publishes them, so “made from the mushroom, not from grain” is verified rather than claimed
  • Tested by an outside lab — for heavy metals, mold, pesticides and any solvent left behind from extraction

If no product meets these standards, we don't list one. No exceptions for affiliates.
